Honors Science Curriculum Guidelines
1. Prerequisites:
a) Math Level - At least
            i) Pre-algebra
(Earth/Space Science) or
          ii) Algebra or Geometry
(Biology)
b) Stanines - 8 or 9
c) Upper 10% of your class -
an A or a B
d) Emotionally Mature
e) Dependable, conscientious, willing and hard worker
f) Excellent self-control and self-discipline
g) Critical thinker

2. Reading Level of Textbook:
a) 9th grade (Earth/Space Science)
b) 10th grade (Biology)

3. Course Descriptions:
 a) These Honors courses will include the experimental approach or inquiry approach, which will involve      math, learning difficult
terminology, assimilating factual information in order to form conclusions,     
dealing with abstract theories, and learning to become a critical thinker.
          i)
Earth/Space Science - The purpose of this course is to develop and apply concepts basic to Earth,                     its materials,
processes, history, and environment in space.
          ii)
Biology Science - The purpose of this course is to develop and apply concepts basic to biology at                     the
molecular/chemical level by using physiological, bio-chemical-evolution relationships.

4. Requirements for the courses:
 a) Keep an Orderly Notebook.
 b) Write chapter summaries, vocabulary definitions etc. as directed by your instructor.
 c) Do Detailed Laboratory Reports (write-ups)
 d) Hand Work In On Time
 e) Study and Keep Up with Work -
NIGHTLY
 f) Be prepared for Quizzes at any time and weekly test.
 g) Be aware of Current Events in Science by clipping and summarizing articles - weekly
 h) Do Four Major Projects at Home
              i) Experimental Design/Investigation Project  -
DUE BY DECEMBER
             ii) Model Project
            iii) Scientist/Career Project
             iv) Open Project

5. Assignments:
 a) Once class gets under way, assignments will be given to you in a week, a month, or more in Advance.    It is up to you to keep track of
Due Dates in your Agenda Books.

 b)
 LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IN HONORS CLASSES. (Petitions for leniency in this manner can be petitioned for via a
written explanation from your parent with a valid reason.)
